Translocation of Pymetrozine in Plants

Abstract: : Pymetrozine, a pyridine-azomethine, is a selective biocide against aphids, whiteÑies and plant hoppers with a high plant systemic activity. By means of bioassays and autoradiographic techniques it has been shown that this systemic behaviour originates not only from xylem but also from phloem mobility. After foliar application the growing points of plants are protected by pymetrozine imports mainly from leaves. This indicates a high importance of phloem mobility for the systemic activity of pymetrozine agains… Show more

“…coagulata after probing the pymetrozine-treated plants was consistent with the effects of pymetrozine on other sap-feeding species including aphids (Aphis fabae [Harrewjin and Kayser 1997], Myzus persicae [Harrewjin and Kayser 1997, Sweeden and McLeod 1997; Wyss and Bolsinger 1997; Nauen et al . 1998], Macrosiphum euphorbiae [Harrewjin and Kayser 1997], and whiteflies; Trialeurodes vaporariorum [Bi et al .…”

“…After application, pymetrozine can be found in most plant tissues especially in xylem and phloem (Wyss and Bolsinger 1997). This systemic activity and concentration in xylem and phloem vessels specifically targets sap-feeding insects.…”

“…3) at pH 3.0, which corresponds to the pK a ± 1 value of pymetrozine could be attributed to the acid-dissociation constant (pK a ) of pymetrozine. The reported pK a of the pymetrozine was 3.07 [17]. As shown in Fig.…”

“…Because of the movement of active ingredients in the vascular bundles, systemic insecticides were good at controlling sucking insects. Pymetrozine is one of the insecticides that have systemic activity and could distribute in the plant in both acropetal and basipetal directions via the xylem and phloem system 24. A previous study proved that this compound can control sucking insects by foliar and soil application 25.…”
