Retranslation is not a new phenomenon, but rather widespread in various translation traditions.As languages evolve, translations become dated, which explains why literary masterpieces are «retranslated». Translations need to be contemporaneous in order to keep pace with the language level of therecipients of any generation. Albanian language has changed. It has become more open to wordsdescribing new phenomena that were missing while trying to transmit feelings, situations or eventscoming across in the works of greatest authors. But, should we translate the translated? This is thequestion. There are many pros and cons to retranslation.Great classical writers or poets, even though translated into Albanian do not have the spirit andexpressions of nowadays level of Albanian literature language, because the translation product is certainlyaffected by the language development of the respective translation period. Works of Shakespeare, Poe,Cervantes, Dreiser and Markez have been translated with the potential linguistic tools of Albanianlanguage of ’20 – ’30- ies in the XX-th century.This work is an effort to provide another opinion in this respect. The analysis is focused on the ageing ofpreviously translated texts, ideological considerations in connection with changing cultural norms andnever ending search for the perfect translation. It will also list the reasons why retranslation is a necessaryprocess.

“…According to this perspective, translation practices are meaningful adaptations to a specific set of contextual constraints for developing countries to transcend language barriers or manage complex multilingualism (Marais & Delgado Luchner, 2018). Troqe and Pema (2018) also employ a semiotic perspective in development studies, but their discussions are mainly based on Lotman's framework of the semiosphere, which helps to expand the understanding of translation into "an intersemiotic activity occurring between semiotic parts of different semiospheres and creating or preventing paths of development" (Troqe & Pema, 2018, p. 339). These diverse studies help to incorporate concepts from translation studies and development studies, further promoting the theoretical and empirical studies in this interdisciplinary domain.…”

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area or GBA), a megalopolis in China, has developed rapidly and achieved remarkable results in recent years. This study aims to explore the translation–development interactions in the GBA from an emergent semiotic perspective. Following the studies on translation and development (Marais, 2014, 2018; Olivier de Sarden, 2005), this study views development as a semiotic process of making meaning under specific affordances and constraints, while translations could be regarded as meaningful intercultural mediations or adaptations that help to transcend language barriers and support regional development. Through exploring different translation practices in education, economics and the media, this study analyses how translation plays a mediating role in the development of the GBA in multiple respects. It first examines the adaptation of curriculum designs of translation courses in the universities of the GBA and then analyses the functions of the translation industry in support of the economic development of the GBA. Finally, it analyses the translations of international publicity material on the tourism websites of the GBA to explore the ways in which translation mediates in the cultural exchanges and coordinated developments regarding the GBA and its component parts. The research findings show that translation practices interact with the developmental contexts at the linguistic, economic and cultural levels, contributing to the coordinated development of the GBA.

Non-translation has not been adequately theorised despite its relevance to conceptualising how texts circulate across linguistic and cultural borders. This article outlines a theory which defines non-translation in three ways: first, in terms of systemic resistance to translation; second, as a set of procedures forming part of an overarching translation strategy; third, as the result of discourse that conceals the process of translation for various purposes. It describes the characteristics of ideological, economic, and poetological resistance to translation, categorising environments as hostile or hospitable depending on the extent to which translation is prevented from happening. Moving beyond a binary opposition between translation and its negative, the article then considers how partial non-translation might be used as a procedure to facilitate the translation of the rest of a text. Finally, the ways in which translational actions are concealed or negated, and thus rendered non-translations, are examined. The overarching aim of the article is to contribute a workable theory of non-translation that will serve as the basis for future studies of translation as a practice, process and product.
