Transient stability assessment and control system for power system

Abstract: This paper addresses the issue of power system transient stability assessment and control (TSA&C) based on phase plane representation of the power angle and rotor speed. First, the relationship between transient stability–instability and concavity–convexity of the phase‐plane trajectory is found and proved based on the single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system, and a transient instability criterion is derived for real‐time instability detection. Second, with the aim that the phase‐plane trajectory swings back … Show more

“…But this method is pre‐fault operating condition dependent. TSA using phase plane representation of SIME power angle and speed is presented in Reference 22. Indeed, the above mentioned approaches made significant contributions in solving TSA problem with respect to a contingency by determining the CCT and comparing it with actual clearing time, which yields the stability assessment result.…”

“…The operating characteristics of power systems become more complicated because of the effect of some factors, for example, the increase of the proportion of new energy sources in the energy structure, the gradual formation of an AC‐DC hybrid power grid 1‐4 . In recent years, large‐scale blackouts have occurred frequently all over the world, which have a major impact on social stability and economic development 5‐7 . If the state of the power system can be quickly and correctly evaluated, accidents spread can be effectively prevented and economic losses can be reduced.…”

“…With the development of a wide‐area measurement system (WAMS) [9], it becomes possible to evaluate the operational status of power systems in real‐time [10–12]. Then, due to the rise of data mining techniques [13, 14], machine learning methods [15] are introduced into TSA.…”
