Transformation performance and subsystem coupling of resource‐based cities in China: An analysis based on the support‐pressure framework

Abstract: The sustainable development of resource-based cities is vital to China's high-quality development. Based on the supportpressure framework, this study simplifies the city system into an economy-society subsystem (ESS) and a resourceenvironment subsystem (RES), and measures the economy social developmental level (ESDL) and resource environmental carrying capacity (RECC) of China's 116 resource-based cities using the improved entropy-TOPSIS model. Then, it applies the coupling coordination degree (CCD) and relati… Show more

“…The region's latitude spans from 37 • 54 ′ N to 39 • 35 ′ N, and its longitude is between 105 • 39 ′ and 108 • 04 ′ E. It is located at the intersection of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is a typical industrial heat source area because of the abundance of coal, ores, and nonferrous metal resources [33].…”

“…Furthermore, from the perspective of research methods in the study of the 3E system, the majority of studies have adopted a research framework of “indicator evaluation + coordination degree quantification.” Among the research methods related to indicator weight analysis, the entropy method (Song et al, 2023, 2022), the analytic hierarchy process (Ameen & Mourshed, 2019; Cui et al, 2019), gray relational analysis (Arce et al, 2015; Mu et al, 2022), and principal component analysis (Wang et al, 2016; Zhao et al, 2016) have been commonly used. The research methods used for quantifying the coordination degree primarily include the coordination degree model (Shen et al, 2018; Song et al, 2023) and system dynamics (Qin et al, 2018; Wu & Ning, 2018), among others.…”

“…To solve these resource and environmental problems and reduce the constraints of resources and the environment on society and the economy, it is necessary to promote high-quality development (Zhu et al, 2020;Song et al, 2022). Rational planning under the requirements of high-quality development can ensure the effective use of environmental resources (Jia et al, 2019).…”

“…Rational planning under the requirements of high-quality development can ensure the effective use of environmental resources (Jia et al, 2019). High-quality development puts forward the goals of improving the RECC, such as land reclamation, mine geological environment management, land remediation, and coastal zone protection (Song et al, 2022). To achieve these goals, China's high-quality development has adopted the means of industrial structure optimization and adjustment, technological progress, and green development (Wang and Li, 2019).…”
