Transcriptome Analysis Identifies Novel Mechanisms Associated with the Antitumor Effect of Chitosan-Stabilized Selenium Nanoparticles

Abstract: Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) have been receiving special attention in recent years due to their antioxidant capacity and antitumor properties. However, the mechanisms associated with these properties remain to be elucidated. For this reason, a global transcriptome analysis has been designed in this work and it was carried out using human hepatocarcinoma cells and chitosan-stabilized SeNPs (Ch-SeNPs) to identify new targets and pathways related to the antitumor mechanisms associated with Ch-SeNPs. The results… Show more

“…As a necessary micronutrient for human health, Se has the effects of delaying aging, enhancing immune function, and preventing cancer. [1][2][3] A deciency in Se intake apparently affects the function and metabolism of gut microbes and even causes certain diseases such as Keshan disease. 4 Therefore, Se supplements in daily life have become a hotspot in nutrition research.…”

“…Furthermore, endoplasmic reticulum stress is linked to a variety of cardiovascular diseases [6]. Selenium (Se), an essential trace element in humans and animals, is involved in numerous important physiological processes and exerts biological effects in the form of selenoproteins [25]. Selenoproteins are powerful antioxidants that play a role in immune enhancement and the prevention of cardiovascular disease [26].…”

“…This technology is based on the extraction of the mRNA, which is transformed into cDNA, which, in turn, is labeled with a fluorescence probe and then hybridized with its corresponding target [ 17 , 18 ]. Therefore, the integration of both techniques allows for the elucidation of the status of different metabolic pathways and, thus, provides a better understanding of the biological processes that are involved after a cytotoxic insult [ 19 , 20 ].…”
