Transcriptional regulation of pseudobactin synthesis in the plant growth-promoting Pseudomonas B10

Abstract: We have investigated the iron-dependent regulation of the psbA gene, encoding the enzyme L-ornithine N 5 -oxygenase in the rhizobacterium Pseudomonas B10. We have cloned and characterized a Pseudomonas B10 gene, designated psbS, required for psbA expression. PsbS is endowed with structural and functional features of extracytoplasmatic function (ECF) sigma factors, and is closely related to the iron starvation sigmas PvdS, PbrA, and PfrI, which mediate the iron-repressible expression of pseudobactin biosynthesi… Show more

“…The alignment was carried out using the clustalw program, available at http://clustalw.genome.ad.jp/. Identical residues and the following sets of residues were considered to match: DE, NQ, RK, ST, FYW and ILVM, as in Leoni et al . (2002).…”

“…PsbS from Pseudomonas B10 and RpoI from Rhizobium leguminosarum are iron‐controlled genes involved in siderophore biosynthesis (Yeoman et al. , 1999; Leoni et al. , 2002); BupI from Bordetella bronchiseptica controls the expression of a putative siderophore receptor gene (Pradel and Locht, 2001); and FiuI and PigD from P. aeruginosa are encoded by Fur‐regulated genes and are likely to be involved in the expression of receptors for exogenous iron chelates (Ochsner and Vasil, 1996).…”
