Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Tinnitus: Influence of Tinnitus Duration on Stimulation Parameter Choice and Maximal Tinnitus Suppression

Abstract: TMS of the auditory cortex is capable of modifying tinnitus perception for a very short time. The maximal amount of suppression and best stimulation frequency depends on the tinnitus duration.

“…A recent analysis of our fi rst 114 TMS sessions performed in unilateral tinnitus demonstrated that TMS had a good effect ( 1 80% transient suppression) in 28 of the patients studied (25%), a partial effect (21-80% suppression) in 32 (28%) and no effect (0-20% suppression) in 54 (47%).
