Transcervical embryo recovery in Saanen goats

Abstract: In order to study the embryo recovery rate using the transcervical technique in Saanen goats raised in the tropics, 20 donors were submitted to an oestrus synchronisation treatment using intravaginal progestagen sponges for 11 days. On the ninth day of treatment, goats received intramuscular injections of 50 µg cloprostenol and six injections of porcine follicle stimulating hormone (pFSH) at 12-hour intervals. Does in oestrus were mated by Saanen bucks. Donors received an intramuscular injection of 50 µg clopr… Show more

“…Regarding to the interval between the end of hormonal treatment and the time of oestrous onset, Saanen goats showed early estrus, when compared with Canindé breed. However, in Saanen breed, the time of oestrous onset was similar to others studies using the same hormonal treatment (Baril and Vallet 1990; Lima‐Verde et al. 2003).…”

In this study, traversing the cervix was necessary to non‐surgically place an experimental compound into the uterine body of mature female goats as part of a contraception study.…”
