Traffic generation of IEC 61850 sampled values

Abstract: Abstract-The work presented in this paper is targeted at the first phase of the test and measurements product life cycle, namely standardisation. During this initial phase of any product, the emphasis is on the development of standards that support new technologies while leaving the scope of implementations as open as possible. To allow the engineer to freely create and invent tools that can quickly help him simulate or emulate his ideas are paramount. Within this scope, a traffic generation system has been de… Show more

“…The GOOSE protocol is utilized for announcing status updates (e.g., open/close status of circuit breaker that the IED is responsible for) with other IEDs. SV protocol, on the other hand, carries digitized analog measurements [27] from the power grid, including voltage, current, etc. Both protocols are the key enablers for protection functions such as over/under-current protection, over/under-voltage protection, and differential protection.…”

“…Ingram et al provide interesting insight into substation traffic and the interactions of protocols on an IEC 61850 process bus by using measurements from the prototype implementation of a substation automation system [14]. Furthermore, a detailed description of SV packets along with an analysis of the associated traffic is provided by Konka et al using simulations in NS3 [15]. In comparison to these approaches, we provide an integrated concept, which covers both the evaluation of the execution platform and the communication network.…”
