Purpose To seek evidence of validity and reliability for the Compressed Speech Test with Figures. Methods The study was subdivided into three stages: construct validation, criteria and reliability. All participants were aged between 6:00 and 8:11. For the construct, Compressed Speech with Figures and the gold standard Adapted Compressed Speech test were applied to children with typical phonological development. For criterion analysis, Compressed Speech with Figures was applied in two groups, with typical (G1) and atypical (G2) phonological development. Finally, the application protocols underwent analysis by two Speech Therapists, with experience in the area of Central Auditory Processing, seeking to obtain an inter-evaluator reliability analysis. Results The correlation test indicated an almost perfect construct (correlation 0.843 for the right ear and 0.823 for the left ear). In the criterion analysis, it was noticed that both groups presented satisfactory results (G1 = 99.6 to 100%; G2 = 96 to 96.5%). The reliability analysis demonstrated that the protocol is easy to analyze, as both professionals presented unanimous responses. Conclusion It was possible to obtain evidence of validity and reliability for the Compressed Speech with Figures instrument. The construct analysis showed that the instrument measures the same variable as the gold standard test, with an almost perfect correlation. In the criterion analysis, both groups presented similar performance, demonstrating that the instrument does not seem to differentiate populations with and without mild phonological disorder. The inter-evaluator reliability analysis demonstrated that the protocol is easy to analyze and score.

The "Protocolo de Avaliação Miofuncional Orofacial MBGR" was developed in the Brazilian Portuguese language to assess and diagnose orofacial myofunctional disorders in the Brazilian Portuguese-speaking population. Considering its extensive use in clinical practice and in scientific studies, the indispensability of participation of professional translators in every translation procedure, the existence of studies in the literature that recommend specific guidelines for the process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation of health-related instruments, and the prevalence of the North American English language in the dissemination of technical and scientific knowledge, the objective of this study was to perform the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the updated "Protocolo MBGR" from the Brazilian Portuguese language into the North American English language according to the guidelines for translation and cross-cultural adaptation of health-related instruments proposed by Beaton et al. (2000), aiming at the dissemination of both the updated "Protocolo MBGR" and the technical and scientific knowledge in Speech-Language Pathology area, specifically in the Orofacial Myology area, produced in Brazil. The guidelines proposed by Beaton et al. (2000) recommend six steps: (1) translations, (2) synthesis of translations, (3) back translations, (4) expert committee, (5) pretests, and (6) submission of the documentation to a coordinating committee.In the first step, two translations into English were done by two different native Englishspeaking translators. In the second step, these two translations were compiled in order to reach a synthesis version. In the third step, the synthesis version of the translations was backtranslated into Portuguese by two native Portuguese-speaking translators. In the fourth step, translators, back translators, and other specialists, including Speech-Language Pathologists, established the pre-final English version of the "Protocolo MBGR" to be tested; each participant scored from 1 to 4 (1 = not relevant, 2 = somewhat relevant, 3 = quite relevant, 4 = highly relevant) each item of the pre-final English version of the "Protocolo MBGR" according to the Content Validity Index (CVI), in order to measure the percentage of experts who were in agreement with the translation of the items. In the fifth step, which was held at the University of South Florida, tests were performed in order to establish the final English version of the "Protocolo MBGR". Objective: To evaluate the reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the Italian OMES (I-OMES). Patients and Methods: The study consisted of 3 phases: (1) internal consistency and reliability, (2) validity, and (3) responsiveness analysis. The recruited population included 27 patients with orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMD) and 174 healthy volunteers. Forty-seven subjects, 18 healthy and all recruited patients with OMD were assessed for inter-rater and test-retest reliability analysis. I-OMES and Nordic Orofacial Test – Screening (NOT-S) scores of the patients were correlated for concurrent validity analysis. I-OMES scores from 27 patients with OMD and 27 age- and gender-matched healthy subjects were compared to investigate construct validity. I-OMES scores before and after successful swallowing rehabilitation in patients were compared for responsiveness analysis. Results: Adequate internal consistency (Cronbach α = 0.71) and strong inter-rater and test-retest reliability (intraclass coefficient correlation = 0.97 and 0.98, respectively) were found. I-OMES and NOT-S scores significantly and inversely correlated (r = –0.38). A statistical significance (p < 0.001) was found between the pathological group and the control group for the total I-OMES score. The mean I-OMES score improved from 90 (78–102) to 99 (89–103) after myofunctional rehabilitation (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The I-OMES is a reliable and valid tool to evaluate OMD.
