Background: There is growing global interest in validated health assessment instruments. In order to use these instruments in different countries, it is necessary to conduct translation, cultural adaptation and validation in the target language. In Brazil, there are few instruments for assessment of the impact of chronic venous disease (CVD) on the quality of life (QoL) of patients. Objective: To validate the AVVQ-Brazil. Method: This was an analytical, observational study to validate the AVVQ questionnaire with 107 individuals with CVD. The version of the AVVQ adapted for Brazilian Portuguese was administered three times. The first two administrations were successive, with a 30-minute interval (interobserver reproducibility) and the third administration took place 7 to 15 days later (intraobserver reproducibility). Internal consistency and validity were also assessed. Results: A total of 107 people took part, 87.9% were female, mean age was 50.1 years ± 14.7; the majority had spent long periods standing up (57.0%) throughout their lives and did not engage in physical exercise (96.3%). Many had not completed primary education (25.2%); were members of economic class C2 (36.4%); and had disease severity class C4 (22.4%) or C6 (23.3%) on the CEAP scale. Interobserver and intraobserver reliability of the AVVQ were excellent. Internal consistency was excellent to moderate for the majority of domains. Spearman correlations showed that total AVVQ score and its Pain and Dysfunction domains were negatively correlated with all SF-36 domains. The Mann-Whitney test showed that patients with CEAP 1, 2 or 3 exhibited differences that were statistically significant from those with CEAP 4, 5 or 6 for total AVVQ scores and for Complications domain scores. Conclusions: The AVVQ has been validated for Brazil and can now be used.

Purpose: To perform the translation and cultural adaptation of the Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting (DASH) for the Brazilian population. Methods: (1) Evaluation of conceptual and items equivalence, and (2) Semantic equivalence, including the steps of (2a) Translation, (2b) retranslation, (2c) Review by the committee of judges and (2d) Pre-test. The second step was carried out by two professionals and 2b by two other professionals, 2c was formed by speech therapists, occupational therapists and educators and the 2d was carried out with 32 students, four from each age group (9-16 years old). Results: (1) It was found that the concepts and items are equivalent in both cultures (British and Brazilian). In the second stage it was found that two tasks in the original procedure, pangrama classified as a phrase in the English language is used. Therefore, when performing unification of translations, an adjustment was made for the phrase pangrama in Portuguese. In 2bshowed that the translation was valid and 2c was consolidated all versions produced in a single version in Portuguese, which was applied in school. In 2d there was acceptance and understanding of the students in the proposed tasks and internal consistency value of 0.701, others words, Métodos: (1) Avaliação de equivalências conceitual e de itens e (2)Avaliação da equivalência semântica, que envolveu as etapas de (2a) Tradução, (2b) Retradução, (2c) Revisão pelo comitê de juízes e (2d) Pré-teste. A etapa 2a foi realizada por dois profissionais e a 2b por outros dois profissionais; na etapa 2c foi composto por um comitê de juízes fonoaudiólogas, pedagogas e terapeutas ocupacionais e a 2d foi realizada com 32 escolares, sendo quatro de cada faixa etária (de 9 a 16 anos). Resultados:(1) Verificou-se que os conceitos e os itens são equivalentes nas duas culturas (britânica e brasileira). Na etapa 2a, observou-se que, em duas tarefas do procedimento original, foi utilizada uma frase classificada como pangrama na língua inglesa. Diante disso, ao se realizar a unificação das traduções, foi feita uma adaptação da frase para um pangrama na língua portuguesa. Na etapa 2b, verificou-se que a tradução foi válida e na 2c, todas as versões produzidas foram consolidadas em uma única versão, em português, que foi aplicada aos escolares. ResumoIntrodução: Apesar do papel fundamental da função sexual na qualidade de vida da população, há uma escassez na literatura brasileira de instrumentos específi cos para sua avaliação e que possam ser utilizados tanto para homens quanto para mulheres. A adaptação da Scale for Quality of Sexual Function (QSF), uma escala unissex, é um passo importante na obtenção de instrumentos que permitam a comparação de resultados entre diferentes populações. Objetivo: Descrever o processo de tradução e adaptação semântica da QSF para o português brasileiro. Métodos: A adaptação do instrumento envolveu cinco fases: 1) duas traduções independentes, 2) uma versão de consenso realizada por tradutores e especialistas, 3) avaliação da versão gerada por mais um especialista que não participou das etapas anteriores, 4) retrotradução com avaliação do autor da escala original e, por fi m, 5) aplicação da versão obtida em um grupo experimental. Resultados: São descritas todas as etapas de adaptação do instrumento. A participação de especialistas tanto da área de saúde mental quanto de sexualidade humana, desde a primeira fase do processo, contribuiu para discussões amplas, que permitiram a melhor adequação dos itens, tanto conceitual quanto culturalmente. Participaram da aplicação experimental sujeitos de diferentes níveis de escolaridade de ambos os sexos, não sendo detectadas difi culdades na compreensão dos itens. Conclusão: Por meio dos procedimentos adotados, foi possível elaborar uma versão da QSF em português brasileiro. The adaptation of the Scale for Quality of Sexual Function (QSF), a unisex scale, is an important step in the production of instruments that allow to compare results obtained in different populations. Objective: To describe the translation and semantic adaptation of the QSF into Brazilian Portuguese. Methods: Instrument adaptation involved fi ve phases: 1) two independent translations, 2) a consensual version produced by translators and experts, 3) evaluation of this version by a different expert, not involved in the previous phases, 4) back translation with evaluation by the author of the original scale, and, fi nally, 5) application of the fi nal Brazilian Portuguese version in a experimental group. Results: All stages of the adaptation process are described. The participation of experts from the fi elds of both mental health and human sexuality since the fi rst stage of the process contributed to broader discussions, which allowed to achieve the best possible adequacy for each item, both conceptually and culturally.
