TRACMASS 7.0 - A Lagrangian trajectory code for atmosphere and ocean sciences

Abstract: <p>The latest version of the <strong>TRACMASS</strong> trajectory code, version 7.0 will be presented. The latest version includes several new features, e.g. water tracing in the atmosphere, generalisation of the tracer handling, and improvements to the numerical scheme. The code has also become more user friendly and easier to get started with. Previous versions of <strong>TRACMASS</strong> only allowed temperature, salinity and potential d… Show more

“…The three‐dimensional mass‐conserving Lagrangian particle tracing algorithm TRACMASS v7.0 (Aldama‐Campino et al, 2020; Döös, 1995) is used in the present study to identify the water sources and pathways responsible for East Asian rainfall. TRACMASS has been used to trace water in the ocean (Berglund et al, 2017; Berglund et al, 2021; Berglund et al, 2022; Döös et al, 2008) and air in the atmosphere (Kjellsson & Döös, 2012; Schumacher et al, 2022).…”

“…The trajectories are calculated using the Lagrangian trajectory code, TRACMASS v7.1 (Aldama‐Campino et al., 2020). TRACMASS analytically calculates the trajectory through each model grid cell by assuming that each component of the three dimensional velocity field varies linearly with its respective direction (Blanke & Raynaud, 1997).…”
