Trace determination of tetracyclines in water samples by capillary zone electrophoresis combining off-line and on-line sample preconcentration

Abstract: In this work, a sensitive and reliable method using capillary zone electrophoresis with UV detection has been developed for trace determination of tetracycline antibiotics in river, spring, and ground waters. A solid-phase extraction method using Oasis HLB was applied for off-line preconcentration and cleanup of water samples, in combination with an on-line preconcentration methodology named large volume sample stacking with polarity switching. Different parameters were optimized in order to obtain an adequate… Show more

“…The BGE composed of 20 mM HAc and 0.05% Tween 20 at pH 3.3 containing 2 mM acridine as a probe for indirect UV detection at 254 nm provided LODs between 3 and 5 g/L. CE-LVSS with polarity switching (to remove the sample matrix) combined with offline SPE was applied by Moreno-González et al [60] to the analysis of tetracycline antibiotics in river, spring, and ground waters. Using 75 mM sodium carbonate and 1 mM EDTA at pH 10 as the BGE and UV detection at 270 nm, sensitivity enhancement factors ranging from 303 to 428 and LODs between 67 and 167 ng/L were obtained.…”

“…As a result, sample ions could be stacked and concentrated in the boundary between the sample zone and the BGE zone . The CZE‐UV method for the analysis of these five TCs was previously developed in our group . However, the separation voltage was reduced from 25 to 20 KV in order to avoid unstable electric current when applying FASI.…”

“…As stated above, a low conductivity sample solvent is necessary in order to have the proper stacking conditions in FASI. Organic solvents of low conductivity or hydro‐organic mixtures have been traditionally used as sample solvents to perform FASI . MeOH, ACN, water and their mixtures in a 50:50 proportion were checked as sample solvents.…”
