Toxicological screening

Abstract: Toxicity testing of new compounds is essential for drug development process. The preclinical toxicity testing on various biological systems reveals the species-, organ- and dose- specific toxic effects of an investigational product. The toxicity of substances can be observed by (a) studying the accidental exposures to a substance (b) in vitro studies using cells/ cell lines (c) in vivo exposure on experimental animals. This review mainly focuses on the various experimental animal models and methods used for to… Show more

“…These include the fixed dose procedure (FDP), the ATC method, and the up and down (UDP) method. The FDP assesses the nonlethal toxicity rather than the lethal dose [21]. The investigational compound is administered at fixed dose levels of 5, 50, 500, and 2000 mg/kg and the animal is observed for a defined period.…”

“…SHIMADZU Affinity-I spectrophotometer was for recording the IR spectrum. General synthesis scheme of the target compound [7][8][9][10][11] (SMMB [1][2][3] ) To a solution of barbituric acid (0.01 mol)/ thiobarbituric acid (0.01 mol) in methanol as solvent, formaldehyde (0.02 mol) and 3-amino-2-methylquinazolin-4(3H)-one (0.02 mol) were added drop wise. The reaction mixture was refluxed on a steam bath for 4 hr.…”
