Towards the realization on JET of an integrated H-mode scenario for ITER

Abstract: ELMy H-mode experiments at JET in 2000/mid-2002 have focused on discharges with normalized parameters for plasma density, energy confinement and beta similar to those of the ITER Q DT = 10 reference regime (n/n GW ∼ 0.85, H 98(y,2) ∼ 1, β N ∼ 1.8). ELMy H-mode plasmas have been realized reaching or even exceeding those parameters in steady-state conditions (up to ∼5 s or 12τ E) in a reproducible way and only limited by the duration of the additional heating phase. These results have been obtained (a) in highly… Show more

“…With regard to future lines of investigation, in terms of applications, BIC H and AIC H can be used in various disciplines not only for model selection but also for exploration of the operational space using genetic algorithms. One case is point is Magnetic Confinement Nuclear Fusion [9,10], in which the model versions of AIC and BIC are already extensively implemented [11][12][13][14]. One application, which can certainly profit form the proposed new version of the indicators, is the identification of the most appropriate solution of difficult inverse problems such as the reconstruction of the magnetic fields and the tomographies [15][16][17][18][19].…”

“…Under these conditions, they have always proved to have much better convergence properties in all respects. As a consequence, the proposed new versions of the selection criteria are expected to be deployed quite systematically in various fields of complex science, ranging from high-temperature plasmas [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23] to atmospheric physics [24,25]. Another interesting application could be found in the regularization of recent tomographic inversion methods [26][27][28].…”

“…This shot was run as a long duration, high density experiment to study density peaking, as described in Refs. [28,29], and is included in the ITER Profile Database [30]. Radial profiles of the shaping parameters and the ion and electron temperatures and densities from TRANSP analysis [31][32][33] of the data are shown in Fig.…”
