Towards the Immunogenic Hyperthermic Action: Modulated ElectroHyperthermia

Abstract: Hyperthermia treatment for solid tumors is a long-used, but poorly accepted method in clinical use. Modulated electro-hyperthermia (mEHT, trade name: oncothermia®) changes the paradigm, introduces a novel, cellularly selective and immunogenic cell-ruination. The mEHT method produces tumor-vaccination, presenting the unharmed genetic information of cancer cells to immune cells [1]. The mEHT method is approved in more than 30 countries. Its phase II/III clinical applications indicate a broad perspective.

“…Immunogenic cell death is one of the main advantages of mEHT [196], which produces damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) [197] by extrinsic excitation of apoptotic pathways through various channels, including the TRAIL-R2 (DR5) death receptors [198] with the complex interaction of FAD + FASS molecules [41] [199]. The concomitant immune-stimulative treatments with dendritic cells [33] [66] and another stimulator [200], with the applied bioelectromagnetic forces by modulated RF signal [19] [44] [45] [201], improve the immunogenic processes.…”

“…An important observation of the modulated treatment is the immunogenic hyperthermic action [155], which can be improved by the independent stimuli of the immune system by dendritic cell therapy [156] [157], or viral therapy [158].…”
