Towards Renewable-Dominated Power Systems Considering Long-Term Uncertainties: Case Study of Las Palmas

Abstract: In this paper, we analyze the generation, storage and transmission expansion of the isolated power system of Las Palmas (Spain) for 2050. This power system comprises two isolated systems: Lanzarote-Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria. The generating, storage and transmission capacity to be built is determined by solving a two-stage stochastic investment model taking into account different long-term uncertain parameters: investment costs of immature technologies of power production and storage, annual demand growth,… Show more

“…A realistic case study based on the isolated power system of Gran Canaria (Spain) [29] has been solved to test the performance of the proposed formulation. Gran Canaria is an island with an approximate total population of 900 thousand inhabitants and an annual electricity consumption close to 3.5 TWh.…”

“…However, these representative works fall into different pitfalls, such as choosing overly complex formulations that only allow to keep tractability for low resolution or short horizons. In this sense, [16] employs 6 days, [15,17] 9 days, [14] 4 weeks, while [12] use a single year equivalent.…”
