Towards Natural Emotional Expression and Interaction

Abstract: In present research the advanced fundamental mechanical capabilities of anthropomorphic robots developed in Takanishi laboratory at Waseda University are to be enhanced in order to enable these robots to interact with humans in a natural way. The anthropomorphic robot KOBIAN is able to express human-like facial expressions and whole-body gestures. It is equipped with vision and audio sensors that allow it to react to interaction input from human partners and to generate an appropriate emotional expression resp… Show more

“…As an important way to reflect the application value of artificial intelligence technology, the research of human-computer interaction systems has received common attention from academia and industry, and human-computer interaction products have gradually entered people's daily life. Influenced by the great satisfaction of material needs, people have begun to desire and pursue the sense of fit brought by human-robot interaction at the emotional level, and hope that robots can have the cognitive-emotional computing ability to generate advanced anthropomorphic emotions while satisfying daily interaction needs [4][5]. The study of cognitive-emotional computation for robots is the key to realizing advanced human-robot interaction technology with organic integration of emotions, which has important practical significance and high research value.…”

“…The effectiveness of robots in educational contexts has been demonstrated by many researchers [13][14][15], as well as the benefits that the incorporation of robots with both human and nonhuman appearance can have in children with autism [16][17][18][19]. However, works referring to children with other educational needs are scarce [20][21][22].…”
