Towards a Distributed Multiagent Travel Simulation

Abstract: With the generalization of real-time traveler information, the behavior of modern transport networks becomes harder to analyze and to predict. It is now critical to develop simulation tools for mobility policies makers, taking into account this new information environment. Information is now individualized, and the interaction of a huge population of individually guided travelers have to be taken into account in the simulations. However, existing mobility multiagent and micro-simulations can only consider a sa… Show more

“…In the near future, we plan to run experiments with hundreds of thousands of passengers to verify, among other objectives, that the results reported in this paper are still valid with real volumes of passengers, and without adaptation of vehicles capacities. In this context, the distribution of the simulation platform on the cloud [7], [29] is an ongoing work [24]. We are also expanding this work to multimodal networks and studying the use of powerful dynamic pathfinding algorithms like D*Lite [20].…”

“…In the near future, we plan to develop scenarios with hundreds of thousands of passengers to verify that our results are coherent with real volumes of data. The distribution of the simulator on the cloud is also currently conducted [12]. Our second ongoing research concerns the optimization of the distribution of connected travelers over competitive paths and not send them all to the same itineraries.…”

“…With the purpose of testing the efficiency of different ways to distribute the work load, we have, in a previous work [16], developed a multiagent travel simulator.…”

“…In a previous work [16], we have proposed distribution methods for a macroscopic simulator. Macroscopic simulations on the other hand use a function to calculate the vehicles speeds on a road, based on the number of vehicles on that road.…”
