Multiagent Simulation of Real-Time Passenger Information on Transit Networks

Abstract: Modeling and simulation play an important role in transportation networks analysis. With the widespread use of personalized real-time information sources, the status of the simulation depends heavily on individual travelers reactions to the received information. As a consequence, it is relevant for the simulation model to be individual-centered, and agent-based simulation is the most promising paradigm in this context. Information is now personalized, and the simulations have to take into account the interacti… Show more

“…The models in this category are based on the concept of autonomous entities, called agents, that are situated in a shared observable environment, that they perceive and where they can act upon, in order to achieve their own goals. Several agent-based models exist in the literature, such as AgentPolis [10], SUMO [11], Aimsun [12], SM4T [13], etc.…”

“…We do not constrain both models and we try to propose a generic approach to this case to be able to use any already existing simulator (e.g. SM4T [11,12]). So, instead of modifying the used models to be coherent together, we insert a middleware between them that handles the exchanged data and the synchronization between simulations.…”

“…Besides, transportation, like many other aspects of daily life, is being transformed by the information technology (IT) revolution [3]. The spread of mobile devices and the development of the Global Positioning System (GPS) make it possible for all the transport operators to adapt in real-time the transportation supply to travel demand [4]. These new technologies have made considerable changes in the transportation modes [5].…”
