This type of research was Participatory Action Research using the Denzin and Lincoln (2005) model which consists of the Kahoot pre-action cycle and post-action cycle. This study aimed to examine the use of Kahoot Platform in Maritime English learning. It improved the speaking skill of nautical science cadets by the increasing number of maritime vocabularies as an indication. The results of this study described that the use of Kahoot quiz made learning experienced in the classroom very interactive, interesting, and effective, because of the two cycles carried out increased from the beginning of the cycle to the next cycle marked by the increasing number of correct answers done by the cadets. Thus, their vocabulary mastery increased as well. Kahoot not only increased vocabularies that supported cadet’s speaking skill initiated by the correct oral reproduction, but also increased cadet’s enthusiasm in learning Maritime English. In conclusion, the use of online gamification-based Kahoot quiz toward nautical science cadets at Sekolah Tinggi Maritim Yogyakarta had a significant impact on vocabulary mastery for effective communication skills.

This paper provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art digital twin and digital thread technology in industrial operations. Both are transformational technologies that have the advantage of improving the efficiency of current design and manufacturing. Digital twin is an important element of the Industry 4.0 digitalization process; however, the huge amount of data that are generated and collected by digital twin offer challenges in handling, processing and storage. The paper aims to report on the development of a new framework that combines the digital twin and digital thread for better data management in order to drive innovation, improve the production process and performance, and to ensure continuity and traceability of information. The digital twin/thread framework incorporated behavior simulation and physical control components, in which these two components rely on the connectivity between the twin and thread for information flow and exchange to drive innovation. The twin/thread framework encompasses specifications that include organizational architecture layout, security, user access, cloud computing set-up, and hardware and software requirements. It is envisaged that the framework will be applicable to enhancing optimization of operational processes and traceability of information in the physical world, especially in Industry Shipyard 4.0.

We have built a worker-safety monitoring system (WSMS) for use in the shipbuilding and offshore industry (S&OI). The WSMS combines metal-conductor communication wireless networks with location-estimation technology that uses ultrasound signals in the frequency band 18 to 22 kHz, which is above the normal range of hearing (<15 kHz) in human adults. This system can be used in environments that include many metal barriers. The developmental process included deriving stakeholder requirements, transforming system requirements, designing system architecture, and developing a prototype. The prototype WSMS was tested by applying it to H Company, a Korean S&OI. Use of the WSMS increased the productivity of workers and managers by reducing the cost of on-site patrols and handwritten input. As a result, the number of worker location information updates increased from 2/day to 20/min, and productivity increased by 30 min/day compared to the previous method. Therefore, shipyards that introduce worker-safety management systems may consider applying this method.
