Toward information-centric software-defined cellular networks

Abstract: Abstract-The concept of software-defined networking (SDN) is able to offer important advantages over the traditional communication paradigms. This is achieved by decoupling the decisionmaking process from the underlying network infrastructure that forwards the traffic. Recently, there have been efforts in applying the SDN approach to wireless and cellular networks. In fact, SDN is considered as one of the key enablers for future 5G communication networks. Information-centric networking (ICN) is another emergin… Show more

“…Moreover, this structure reduced the flow delay, flow setup requirement quantity, and flow entity quantity. To accelerate packet dissemination to mobile users of cellular networks, the authors in [159] presented a novel ICN protocol for the SDN-enabled ICN networks. This protocol possessed fast and efficient content transmission, which made improvements in routing and mobility.…”

“…In particular, the simulation parameters can be set concerning the specific application environment, so that the simulation results are closer to the actual situation. Taking [147,159] and [106] as examples, they used NS-3, MATLAB, and OMNET simulators to prove that the proposed schemes can achieve the corresponding functions.…”

“…It forms a scalable and efficient interoperability framework, which could be deployed over SDICN for IoT service provisioning. Vassilakis et al [98] propose ICN protocol for SDN-based cellular networks. The authors develop two novel network functions, namely the request resolution function and content routing function.…”

“…It cannot improve the speed of data transmission in nature in the face of the new big data network environment . In the SDN‐based information centric network, the application layer implements such services as name resolution, name routing, and content caching in the ICN idea and implements service deployment through an open interface provided by the control layer . However, the information centric network based on SDN is mainly based on the ground network.…”
