Toward Evaluation of The Subjective Experience of A General Class of User-Controlled, Robot-Mediated Rehabilitation Technologies for Children with Neuromotor Disability

Abstract: Technological advances in game-mediated robotics provide an opportunity to engage children with CP and other neuromotor disabilities in more frequent and intensive therapy by making personalized, programmed interventions available 24/7 in children’s homes. Though shown to be clinically effective and feasible to produce, little is known of the subjective factors impacting acceptance and of such assistive/rehabilitative gamebots by their target populations and their families. This research describes th… Show more

“…For the remainder of the 3 motions (ankle plantar flexion, ankle inversion, and ankle eversion), 3 separate t tests were conducted for each and the calculated Bonferroni-corrected new critical value was 0.0167 (0.05/3) for them. Data from participant interviews were organized into 21 factors that mapped into 3 categories of experience (Personal Factors, Fit of Exercise Program in the Home Environment, and Therapist Support) based on synthesizing the 2 theories of HEP adherence, as described in Schladen et al30…”

“…The second branch considers the subjective evaluation of various functions of the rollator during the trials, using the PYTHEIA scale. PYTHEIA ( Koumpouros et al, 2016 ) is a valid and reliable scale which has already been tested and validated in several studies and research efforts in the domain of rehabilitation and assistive technologies with or without robotic support (Manon M. Schladen et al, 2020 ; M. Schladen et al, 2020 ; Manon M. Schladen et al, 2020 ; Koumpouros et al, 2020 ). The instrument is divided into two main parts; Part A is related to the evaluation of the assistive technology as a whole, covering various aspects such as fit and ease of use, while Part B can be used as many times as needed in order to evaluate any individual characteristic of the assistive technology (e.g.…”

“…Find a new regiment nice for you and be sure to vary them occasionally in the community older groups, for example walking speed over 4 m walking distance in m/s. The goal is to start to help prevent injuries slowly to build up your fitness level and let your body rest from time to time[64]. Keeping track of your walking exercise training progress in the community older groups or taking a virtual group class are examples of actionable steps that can help you stay motivated and achieve…”
