Toward a triangular theory of love for one’s musical instrument

Abstract: This article presents an application of a triangular theory of love as it applies to love for musical instruments. The triangular theory comprises three components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. “…While there are a few pockets of literature available on gadget lovers, there is no prior research examining the relationship between perceived ease of use and gadget love. Drawing upon Sternberg's (1986) triangular theory of love, the concept of interpersonal love has been used to explain human relationships with non-human entities, such as a person's love feelings toward a brand (Khan, Pelet, and Zamani, 2021), technology (Hernandez-Ortega and Ferreira, 2021) and musical instrument (Sternberg, 2020). This study postulated that e-wallet users with a high level of perceived ease of use will more likely form a greater level of gadget love towards the use of e-wallet.…”

“…The triangular theory of love for a musical instrument was proposed in a theoretical paper (Sternberg, 2021a), but has not yet been tested. Thus, as of now, there is a potential need for empirical evidence that the components of the triangular theory actually predict meaningful criteria, such as happiness or satisfaction with one's musical instrument, or the importance of that musical instrument in one's life.…”

“…Gairah, yang terutama bersifat motivasi, mengacu pada perasaan bahwa seseorang tidak dapat hidup tanpa orang lain, bahwa seseorang membutuhkan orang lain dalam hidupnya, dan bahwa seseorang bahkan tidak dapat membayangkan hidup seseorang tanpa yang lain. Komitmen mengacu pada keputusan untuk mencintai dan bertahan dalam hubungan tanpa batas (Sternberg. 2021).…”
