Total Productive Maintenance Approach to an Increase of the Energy Efficiency of a Hotel Facility and Mitigation of Water Consumption

Abstract: Increasing greenhouse gas emissions and more and more restrictive European Union regulations necessitate the reduction of energy demand in buildings, including hotels. A more economical way of managing and operating a facility may lead to competitive advantage and a reduction in the negative impact on the environment. This study indicated that the hotel facility wastes significant amounts of water and energy, and the main sources of losses were determined. The design assumption was to achieve savings by introd… Show more

“…In a hotel, guests want to relax, and sometimes they use the hotel for entertainment. Therefore, they do not pay attention to the consumption of water or electricity in the hotel, although they reduce the consumption in their own homes due to costs and the environment (Oryncz & Tucki, 2021). Therefore, taking into account the needs related to environmental protection and the increasing costs of maintaining hotel facilities, managers strive to increase energy efficiency (Cingoski & Petrevska, 2018).…”

“…The second stage starts from 2012 and the topics that tend to be investigated are benchmarking, addressed by Lai and Yik (2008), Lai and Yik (2012b), Lai and Yik (2012a) and Lai (2016); facilities management is another trend of this period, studied by Hassanien and Losekoot (2002), Lai and Yik (2012b), Longart (2020) and Priyangika et al (2020). Energy, addressed by Chan et al (2003), Lai (2016), Orynycz and Tucki (2021); sustainability is another current trend, this has been investigated by authors such as Hussain et al ( 2019), Ragodoo (2011) And water quality studied by Toyosada et al (2017) and Van Hulle et al (2012).…”
