Total Knee Arthroplasty after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Abstract: The incidence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is increasing in the United States, particularly in the older athlete. Patients who undergo ACL reconstruction are at higher risk for undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) later in life. TKA in patients with prior ACL reconstruction has been associated with longer operative time due in-part to difficulty with exposure and retained hardware. Outcomes after TKA in patients with prior ACL reconstruction are not well defined, with some reports sho… Show more

“…The prior femoral implant may be encountered when using an intramedullary alignment guide or when making the intercondylar notch cut during a posterior-stabilized TKA 10 . Although metallic interference screws or staples in the intercondylar notch should be removed with a screwdriver or carbide burr, newer biocomposite screws or suspensory fixation may not interfere with arthroplasty component placement and thus may less frequently require implant removal 15 .…”

“…после операции. Большинство авторов, указывают на то, что остеосинтез внутрисуставных переломов в анамнезе приводит к более высокой частоте послеоперационных осложнений при первичном ТЭКС [12,14,15,17,18,19,20]. При этом риск развития интра-и послеоперационных осложнений после переломов проксимального отдела большеберцовой кости существенно выше в обоих ситуацияхпри выполнении артропластики после металлоостеосинтеза или по первичным показаниям [21,22,23,24,25].…”

“…For patients with posttraumatic osteoarthritis, the presence of periarticular hardware complicates total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and increases the incidence of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI)[ 1 - 3 ]. Meanwhile, PJI may significantly prolong the treatment period, resulting in longer hospitalization, more complications, higher medical costs, and lower quality of life[ 4 - 6 ].…”
