“…Ying et al [12] proposed that complete discoid meniscus is closely related to higher cartilage wear compared to incomplete type and thus has inferior clinical outcomes. Furthermore, they proposed that if the discoid meniscus is torn, this cartilage wear and degeneration will occur quickly and deteriorate the clinical results.…”

“…Ying et al [12] proposed that if the course of the symptoms surpasses 6 months, the degenerative changes of the articular cartilage can be clearly detected during operation, and the Lysholm knee score is lower in the follow-up. But this finding is not supported by other studies including our study.…”

“…A discoid meniscus is an anatomical congenital anomaly which was considered to be a vestige of viviparous cartilage development of the knee ( 1 , 2 ). Diagnosis of the discoid meniscus has been improved by the MRI technique, and the incidence of discoid lateral meniscus of the knee in the Chinese population is 16–46% ( 3 ). Although it may be left untreated, tearing of the discoid lateral meniscus may cause pain and immobility of the knee joint, and therefore requires surgery.…”
