Topographic relationship between frequency‐doubling technology threshold values

Abstract: ABSTRACT.Purpose: To study the topographic relationship of retinal sensitivity evaluated by frequency-doubling perimetry (FDT) in healthy subjects and patients with glaucoma. Methods: Hundred and thirty-four eyes from 134 subjects (72 patients with glaucoma and 62 healthy controls) were prospectively and consecutively selected. Only one eye of each subject was randomly selected for evaluation. All subjects underwent a full ophthalmic examination and a reliable FDT (fullthreshold C-20-5 algorithm). Pearson corr… Show more

“…In frequency-doubling technology (FDT), a sinusoidal grid of low spatial frequency flickering with high frequency is observed and the eye perceives this grid as the element of twice higher spatial frequency [7][8][9], which is an optical illusion. It seems that such stimuli react to large, magnocellular (M) ganglion cells [10], which allows us to detect very early glaucoma stages, in which M-type retinal ganglion cells are damaged at the onset [10][11][12][13].…”
