Topical ethosomal capsaicin attenuates edema and nociception in arthritic rats

Abstract: In this study, topical ethosomal formulation of capsaicin was prepared and evaluated for bioefficacy in arthritic rats. Physical and biological characterizations of prepared capsaicin-loaded nano vesicular systems were also carried out. Ethosomal capsaicin showed significant reduction of rat paw edema along with promising antinociceptive action. The topical antiarthritic efficacy of prepared formulation of capsaicin was found more than that of Thermagel, a marketed gel of capsaicin. From toxicological study, n… Show more

“…Then, the skin was mounted onto a Franz diffusion cell (Shanghai Kai Science and Technology Trade Co., Ltd, People's Republic of China). The area of the rat skin subjected to different capsaicin preparations in the donor chamber was 2.83 cm 2 , and the volume of the receiver fluid was 6.8 mL. Tested formulations equaling 1 mg capsaicin were applied evenly on the skin surface.…”

“…The ethosomal formulation of topically administered capsaicin was evaluated for bio-efficacy in arthritic rats. The results revealed a significant reduction of rat paw edema along with promising antinociceptive action [ 68 ]. No predictable signs of toxicity such as skin irritation were observed.…”
