This study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of Xanthoceras sorbifolia of seeds oil on RAW264.7 macrophages and TPA (12-O-tetra decanoylphorbol-acetate)-induced ear edema mice. MTT assay method to measure cytotoxicity was formed in RAW264.7 cell. The anti-inflammatory effect was measured by ability to inhibit production nitric oxide (NO) in RAW264.7 cell. Hexane and eight-percent methanol fractions from Xanthoceras sorbifolia seeds oil did not show cytotoxicity. Hexane and eight-percent methanol fractions were showed significantly inhibitory effect on NO production. TPA-induced acute edema was developed in the mouse ears, and Xanthoceras sorbifolia seeds oil dissolved in acetone was applied to inflamed ears. It was found out that Xanthoceras sorbifolia seeds oil could significantly reduce th ear swelling, compared to the control. Overall results indicate that the Xanthoceras sorbifolia seeds oil has anti-inflammatory activity and could be used as a resource of anti-inflammatory materials.

The aim of this study was to develop nanoemulsion containing soft extract of stem bark of Rapanea ferruginea to improve the topical delivery and anti-inflammatory activity. The extract of R. ferruginea stem bark was incorporated into the oily phase of the nanoemulsion by the method of phase inversion at low energy. The developed nanoemulsion had an average droplet size of 47.88±8.20 nm and a polydispersibility index of 0.228. Uniformity of size, spherical shape of droplet, and absence of clusters were confirmed by transmission electronic microscopy. The zeta potential was −34.7±1.15 mV. The nanoemulsion showed a moderate degree of skin irritation in the agarose overlay assay in vitro. The content of the extract markers, myrsinoic acids A and B, was 54.10±0.08 and 53.03 μg/g in the formulation, respectively. The formulation demonstrated pseudoplastic and thixotropic rheological behavior. In vitro release of chemical markers was controlled by diffusion mechanism. An extract-loaded nanoemulsion showed a topical anti-inflammatory activity in a croton oil-induced edema ear model, with a decrease in tumor necrosis factor release and myeloperoxidase activity. The nanoemulsion was 160% more efficient than the conventional cream containing 0.13% of the extract. The nanoemulsion showed suitable properties as a carrier for topical use of R. ferruginea extract and the approach for improving the topical anti-inflammatory activity.

Sabicea brasiliensis Wernh (Rubiaceae). The phytochemical investigation of Sabicea brasiliensis roots led to the isolation of 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid, 3,5-and 4,5-O-dicaffeoylquinics acids, scopoletin, ursolic acid, a mixture of β-sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol, daucosterol and saccharose. The structures of the isolated compounds were assigned on the basis of one-and twodimensional NMR spectroscopic methods and by comparison with literature data. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of the crude methanolic extract and its fractions were analyzed.Keywords: Sabicea brasiliensis; caffeoylquinic acid; anti-inflammatory activity. INTRODUÇÃOO gênero Sabicea, pertencente à família Rubiaceae, à subfamília Ixoroideae e à tribo Sabiceae, é composto por aproximadamente 100 espécies distribuídas pela América Tropical e África, sendo que cerca de 45 a 50 espécies estão presentes na região neotropical.1 Espécies deste gênero são usadas na medicina popular para o tratamento da dor de estômago e de dente, disenteria, malária, reumatismo, prisão de ventre, epilepsia, febre, vômitos, insônia e ainda para combater doenças venéreas e como depurativo do sangue, além do uso como adoçante.2 Entretanto, apesar do amplo uso popular de plantas deste gênero, apenas Sabicea grisea foi estudada fitoquimicamente.Das folhas desta espécie foi isolado o octacosanol, 3 composto detentor de atividades biológicas importantes como antioxidante, ergogênica e antiparkinsoniana, 4 sendo que o extrato bruto e a fração hexânica de onde ele foi retirado apresentaram atividades antinociceptiva e anti-inflamatória, com inibição da dor induzida por ácido acético em camundongos, assim como o próprio octacosanol. 3A espécie Sabicea brasiliensis é um arbusto com aproximadamente 80 cm de altura conhecido popularmente como sangue-de-cristo, de ocorrência nas regiões de cerrado do Brasil 1 que, além de ser usado pela população essencialmente como alimento, 5 é empregado no tratamento de infecções nos órgãos genitais de mulheres.6 Esta espécie possui leveduras que são aplicadas no controle de doenças pós-colheita em laranja e pêssego. 7A escassez de estudos químicos com espécies do gênero Sabicea, a ausência dos mesmos acerca da espécie S. brasiliensis e os interessantes usos populares que tais plantas possuem motivaram a realização do presente trabalho, no qual é relatado o isolamento e identificação de três ácidos cafeoilquínicos, uma cumarina, um triterpeno, três esteroides, um esteroide glicosilado e um dissacarídeo. Com base no uso popular desta espécie em infecções genitais, a avaliação da atividade anti-inflamatória foi efetuada e, também, devido ao isolamento de compostos fenólicos da classe dos ácidos cafeoilquínicos, foi realizado teste para deferir o potencial antioxidante do extrato bruto e frações de S. brasiliensis.
