Top-down influences on phonetic processing as a function of aging

Abstract: A phonetic identification experiment was conducted in order to assess the extent to which lexical information influenced low-level speech perception processes in three different age groups of subjects (20–29 years, 60–69 years, and 70–79 years). Subjects were required to label syllable-initial, bilabial stop consonants which varied in voice onset time (VOT) as either /b/ or /p/.
