Tool for analysis of multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) field data and evaluation of shear wave velocity profiles of soils

Abstract: Multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) is a fast, low-cost, and environmentally friendly technique to estimate shear wave velocity profiles of soil sites. This paper introduces a new open-source software, MASWaves, for processing and analysing multichannel surface wave records using the MASW method. The software consists of two main parts: a dispersion analysis tool (MASWaves Dispersion) and an inversion analysis tool (MASWaves Inversion). The performance of the dispersion analysis tool is validated by … Show more

“…We read with interest the work presented on the new opensource software, MASWaves, for processing and analysing multichannel surface wave records using the MASW method (Olafsdottir et al 2018). We agree with the authors that the determination of the experimental dispersion curve is a very critical stage in using such a tool to obtain the shear wave velocity profile.…”

“…Multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) is an indirect geophysical method used to determine shear wave velocity of geomaterials (soil and rock) (Park et al 1999;Elin et al 2017). MASW uses active and passive source to generate seismic wave and map weathered and engineering bed rock (Enke et al 2008;Anbazhagan and Sitharam 2008).…”

“…MASW uses active and passive source to generate seismic wave and map weathered and engineering bed rock (Enke et al 2008;Anbazhagan and Sitharam 2008). It measures surface (Raleigh waves) to generate shear wave velocity profile of dispersion curve by inversion (Park et al 1999;Elin et al 2017). In addition to that, average shear wave velocity (Vs 30 ) is prepared from shear wave velocity profile to determine the site classes according to Eurocode-8 (2003), NEHRP (BSSC 2015b), International Building Code (IBC 2009), Ministry of Construction 2015 and NEHRP (BSSC 2015a, Dobry et al 2000Kanli et al 2006).…”

“…The corresponding dispersion images are shown in Figure 18c,d. The dispersion analysis tool of MASWaves [38] was used for processing the acquired time series and identifying the fundamental mode of Rayleigh wave propagation. The fundamental mode dispersion curve estimates that were identified from the repeated shots, are compared in Figure 18e.…”
