To Study the Efficacy of Laser Peripheral Iridoplasty in the Treatment of Eyes With Primary Angle Closure and Plateau Iris Syndrome, Unresponsive to Laser Peripheral Iridotomy, Using Anterior-Segment OCT as a Tool

Abstract: In eyes with synechial angle closure and PIS that do not show an improvement after an iridotomy, laser peripheral iridoplasty can be very effective. There were no significant complications after the iridoplasty procedure, implying that it is quite safe. This study also demonstrates that AS-OCT can serve as a useful tool to document the preprocedure angle parameters, to note the changes after the procedure, and for the long-term follow-up of these patients.

“…12 It is effective in eyes with PAS angle closure and plateau iris syndrome (PIS) that do not show an improvement after LPI. 13 It was observed that APLI opens the angle in PIS not only by contracting the iris stroma, but also by thinning the iris tissue at the crowded angle. 14 Like LPI, ALPI alone is effective in appositional angle closure but may not be as effective in extensive PAS closure cases.…”

“…This is a condition termed plateau iris syndrome. In these patients, laser peripheral iridoplasty may be used as a second attempt to resolve the angle closure . Ramakrishnan et al demonstrated that AS‐OCT is an effective imaging modality for characterising the angle pre‐ and post‐procedure in such cases …”
