To compare the gingival melanin repigmentation after diode laser application and surgical removal

Abstract: Aim:The aim of the present study is to compare the gingival melanin repigmentation after diode laser application and surgical removal done by scraping with Kirkland knife.Materials and Methods:This study was a randomized split-mouth study where 10 patients presenting with unattractive, diffuse, dark brown to black gingival discoloration on the facial aspect of the maxillary gingiva were treated by diode laser application and surgical removal and followed up for 3-, 6-, and 9-month intervals. Results:The results… Show more

“…The Wnt/β-catenin and BMP pathways have been shown to be essential in the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs [4,8]. When Wnt ligands bind the receptors LRP5/6 and Frizzled receptors, the classical Wnt/β-catenin pathway is activated, after which formation of the Wnt-fz-lrp6 complex (including Axin, APC, GSK3, and CK1) promotes the release of β-catenin [9][10][11][12][13]. Ultimately, β-catenin migrates to the nucleus, where it forms a complex with TCF/LEF to stimulate the expression of osteogenic genes, such as RUNX2, ALP, DLX5, and OCN [14,15].…”

“…A total of 4989 studies with relevant titles were further scrutinized based on eligibility criteria. After removing studies on basis of irrelevant objective, protocols only, no abstract, no full text, in vitro studies, different study designs, only 25 studies[12131421222324252627282930313233343536373839404142] were finally selected to be included for data extraction. The PRISMA flow chart of the process is shown in Figure 1.…”

“…The scalpel surgical technique is a pioneering technique and is very popular till date due to the ease of application, easy availability of armamentarium, and affordability. 2 The procedure involves the surgical removal of gingival epithelium along with a layer of the underlying connective tissue, thereby allowing the denuded connective tissue to heal by secondary intention. The new epithelium that forms is devoid of melanin pigmentation.…”

“…The new epithelium that forms is devoid of melanin pigmentation. 2,3 Laser techniques have, however, replaced the conventional surgical stripping. 14,15 The present study was carried out to compare the depigmentation techniques of surgical stripping and diode laser.…”
