TLD measurements and Monte Carlo calculations of head and neck organ and effective doses for cone beam computed tomography using 3D Accuitomo 170

Abstract: Reliable results for the organ doses as well as effective dose values were achieved with thermoluminescent dosemeter measurements in the RT-Humanoid phantom. This study provides the basis for the application of MC simulations for further dose determinations of cone beam CT machines. The MC calculation may therefore be a valuable tool to support the dentists in the evaluation of the trade-off between additional information that may be relevant to the choice of therapy and the additional dose given to the patien… Show more

“…Both OSLD measurements and the MC simulation method are relatively new techniques in dental X-ray equipment at the present [10,11]. More research on these newly introduced methods (OSLD or MC calculations) compared to traditional dosimetry should be performed to prove the efficiency of these methods.…”

“…Limitations of this work may include the uncertainties from errors in the TLD readings 28 the sensitivity of the TLDs used in this study were 0.028. The experimental room did not fully account for a true interventional radiology environment, as the use of phantoms were employed for this study.…”

“…In 2009, ICRP introduced reference phantom of female and male adult which is based on the actual computed tomographic data of adult human [22]. Among previous studies, only one adopted ICRP reference phantom and others used computed tomographic scan data of Rando-alderson phantom [11, 23]. In present study, the Cristy and Eckerman phantom facilitated in software was used without any modification.…”
