“…Drought limits the photosynthesis by retarding the synthesis of photosynthetic pigments. It is well established fact that chlorophyll contents and photosynthetic rate are positively correlated [105,106]. In the present study, NN1-M-wild depicted 17% reduction in chlorophyll content while NN1-M-506 recorded 22% during M 7 generation (Fig 8; Table S2).…”

“…In short, at a lower quantity, these green synthesised BBS-NiONPs are biocompatible and have the ability to speed up seed germination by breaking seed dormancy and can act as a growth-promoting agent. The positive response of seeds toward lower concentrations of BBS-NiONPs might be due to various factors such as infiltration of NPs, releasing ions and making a suitable environment for oxygen and water uptake, hence breaking seed dormancy and promoting seedling growth [ 33 , 37 ]. These findings indicate that apart from their potential in the biomedical field, green synthesised NPs could be effectively used in agricultural fields as nano fertilisers as well as stimulatory agents for plant physiology.…”

“…Variation in photosynthetic pigment contents is the key indicator to determine the extent of photosynthesis in plants grown under water stress conditions. It is well known that drought decreases the photosynthetic rate of cereals [15]. The major components limiting photosynthetic rate are the CO 2 diffusional limitation due to early stomatal closure as a response to the drought-induced loss of turgor, reduced activity of photosynthetic enzymes, the biochemical components related to the triose-phosphate formation and decreased the photochemical efficiency of photosystem II [16].…”

“…In barley, grain yield under late drought stress was positively correlated with grain filling duration and gross photosynthetic rate [25]. Furthermore, the tolerant wheat cultivars enhanced total chlorophyll at pre- and post-anthesis stage accompanied by a more stable photosynthetic rate, while susceptible cultivars reduced both traits for both stages [15]. Chlorophyll has a crucial role in plant energy production, thus the susceptible plants suffer from insufficient energy needed for normal growth.…”
