One of the crucial issues for successful technology-enhanced out-of-class language learning (OCLL) is the learners' continuance intention to use technology. Considering the strong mutual relationship between learners' intention and motivation, the present study extended the technology acceptance model (TAM) with the self-determination theory (SDT) to investigate Japanese EFL learners' intention to use learning technologies for OCLL. The study was conducted in a technology-enhanced OCLL environment using a web-based e-portfolio system. The hypothesised model included two principal antecedents of behavioural intention introduced by TAM -perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use -in addition to the three psychological needs for competence, autonomy, and relatedness introduced by SDT. Path analysis was conducted to find the multivariate relationships between the constructs in the model based on the collected data from 162 Japanese EFL learners. The results indicated that SDT determinants could significantly predict perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, among which perceived competence was the most influential factor. Furthermore, perceived usefulness highly influenced the learners' intention to continue technology-enhanced OCLL, which in turn influenced their actual usage of the system.

Autonomy in language learning is recognized as a basic skill language learners need to develop. This study describes the autonomous work activities university students carry out in a first-semester course of an English teaching program, and the amount of time they invest in each of these activities. Moreover, it describes the teachers’ perspective on students’ autonomous work. It is a descriptive mixed study with an exploratory scope. The study considers data generated through the application of a questionnaire and an in-depth interview to 48 freshmen from an English Pedagogy Program, as well as a questionnaire and a focus group applied to eight English teachers from the same program. The qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis method; and the quantitative data, through a frequency method of analysis. The analysis reveals that there is an imbalance between the time teachers estimate students devote to autonomous work and the real time students declare to invest in it. In relation to students autonomous work activities, it can be concluded that they concentrate on activities which are less stressful and the ones they do not need to interact with teachers. This study provides empiric information that could be useful to design courses that consider autonomous work.

Đặt vấn đềSự bùng nổ của công nghệ đã tạo ra một đòn bẩy quan trọng cho hoạt động dạy và học ngoại ngữ ở các quốc gia nơi mà người học ít có môi trường giao tiếp bằng ngôn ngữ đích trong đời sống hàng ngày (Benson, 2011;Hafner, 2014; Lai & Gu, 2011). Thế giới ảo của truyền thông điện tử cho phép người học không chỉ tương tác với ngôn ngữ đích (Hafner, Chik, Jones, 2013) mà còn tham gia cộng đồng mạng với vai trò người sử dụng ngôn ngữ đó (Warschauer, 2002). Khi có sự thay đổi trong vai trò và cách tiếp cận của người học, người dạy và các nhà hoạch định chính sách cũng cần có những kế hoạch và hướng dẫn giúp người học tận dụng tối ưu những cơ hội học tập này (Barton, Potts, 2013). * ĐT.: 84-985526828, Email: tranghnpearl@gmail.com Ở Việt Nam, công nghệ cũng được coi là công cụ giúp đổi mới chất lượng dạy và học ngoại ngữ. Với sự triển khai rộng rãi của Đề án dạy và học ngoại ngữ trong hệ thống giáo dục quốc dân 2020, các cơ sở đào tạo đã có những đầu tư rõ rệt về cơ sở vật chất, trang thiết bị dạy và học ngoại ngữ, mở các lớp tập huấn cho giáo viên và đưa công nghệ vào hỗ trợ các hoạt động thực hành tiếng Anh của học sinh (Lê Văn Canh và cộng sự 2015).Tuy nhiên, những thiết bị được đầu tư để phục vụ đổi mới sẽ không tác động nhiều đến mục tiêu đổi mới dạy và học nếu không có những nghiên cứu về thái độ và cách sử dụng những thiết bị đó của người học. Vì vậy, rất cần có những nghiên cứu về vấn đề này và nghiên cứu này là nhằm để góp phần tìm ra câu trả lời cho vấn đề còn chưa được nghiên cứu nhiều này.Nghiên cứu về hoạt động tự học ngoại ngữ có sử dụng công nghệ ở châu Á thể hiện Tóm tắt: Một trong những công cụ được kỳ vọng có thể tạo nên những đột phá trong đổi mới hoạt động dạy và học ngoại ngữ là công nghệ. Làn sóng công nghệ trong cơn sốt đổi mới được thể hiện ở hàng loạt những dự án về ứng dụng công nghệ trong nhà trường và những nghiên cứu tác động của những chương trình này. Tuy nhiên, số lượng nghiên cứu về việc học sinh Việt tự học ngoại ngữ dựa vào công nghệ còn tương đối khiêm tốn. Qua bảng hỏi, phỏng vấn bán cấu trúc và quan sát, nghiên cứu này tìm hiểu các loại công nghệ được 272 sinh viên Trường Đại học Công nghệ -Đại học Quốc gia Hà Nội sử dụng để tự học tiếng Anh và đánh giá của họ về hoạt động này. Kết quả khẳng định tính đa dạng ở loại công nghệ và các đặc tính nổi bật của công nghệ cũng như khó khăn về kỹ năng tự học của sinh viên.
