Time development of new hydrogen transmission pipeline networks for France

Abstract: The development of an hydrogen economy will need a transportation infrastructure to deliver hydrogen from production sites to end users. For the specific case of hydrogen, pipelines networks compete with other hydrogen carriers: compressed gas trucks and liquid cryogenic trucks. In this paper, we deal with the determination of the temporal deployment of a new hydrogen transportation infrastructure. Starting from the expected final horizon pipelines network, we propose a backward heuristic approach. The propose… Show more

“…To compare investments with different economical lives of years at a specified discount rate , the net present value ( ) method is used (Equation 6). Taking the notation used in the definition of LCOH the net present value of the initial investment can be written [André et al, 2014]…”

“…This scenario-based investigation relies on GIS data to describe production sites, local demand and preferred routes for pipelines. Transmission H 2 pipeline networks for France are analysed in André et al (July 2014) by a backward heuristic approach. Results show that for the mid-term perspective and low market share, the trucks are the most economical options.…”

“…Therefore, in addition to the determination of the amount of hydrogen gas that would deliver equivalent energy contents as natural gas, accurate investigation of the effect of fluid and flow properties such as the compressibility factor, and velocity on the safe and efficient transportation of hydrogen and hydrogen blends is important as they influence gas flow in the pipelines [6]. Additionally important are the choice and design of compressor stations [4] and the quality of the gas delivered [7].…”
