Time and Angle of Arrival Statistics of Mobile-to-Mobile Communication Channel Employing Circular Scattering Model

Abstract: Mobile-to-mobile communication becomes necessary in many emerging wireless communication systems. Characteristics of mobile-to-mobile communication channel have been studied through a geometrical single bounce scattering model and analytical expressions for angle of arrival and time of arrival probability density functions have been derived for such models. Analytical expressions have been verified through computer simulations. This paper aims to provide a better understanding of mobile-to-mobile channel behav… Show more

“…The spatial and temporal characteristics of the multipath signals play an important role in M2M communication channel modeling. The geometrically-based channel models in M2M communication environment can be traced back from two-dimensional (2D) circular models [1][2][3][4][5] and 2D elliptical models [6,7] to three-dimensional (3D) channel models [8][9][10]. For reader's convenience, we discuss only those 2D and 3D channel models that especially focus on the angle-of-arrival (AoA) and time-of-arrival (ToA) of the multipath signals in M2M communication environment.…”

“…Our proposed model, with appropriate selection of its parameter values, contains many 2D models [9,10,12] and 3D models [20][21][22] as special cases. For example, if the vertical dimension of both scattering volumes in our model approaches zero, i.e., c 1 → 0 and c 2 → 0, then our model reduces to the 2-D model proposed in [13].…”
