TID testing and SEE mitigation approach of a long mission life GPS receiver using COTS parts

Abstract: Compared to conventional hardware GPS receivers (GPSR), software GPS receivers are more suitable for research and development. Software GPS receivers can be dynamically programmed in software to reconfigure the characteristics of GPS receiver and new algorithms can easily be integrated without changing the design of the hardware. However, the most important issue for this approach is the computational load. It can be solved by using the high performance state-of-art digital signal processor. The harshness of s… Show more

“…The design of SEL free circuit will not enable power until power supply voltage is lower than certain threshold. Many Space agencies have been working for mitigating the SEE effects in their satellite design. The following shows the test results of this design conducted by [14] at the radiation test chamber of the Nuclear Science and Technology Development Center at National Tsing Hua University(Taiwan) equipped with 2 Co-60 dry stored rod sources (radiation strength ratio is around 30). A system Fig.…”

“…In addition to the performance test, the environmental tests are essential to verify that the NSPO GPSR is compliant with its specification and is ready to fly with LEO missions. The NSPO GPSR has passed the entire qualification test campaign, undergoing such tests as a thermal cycle test, a vibration test, a thermal vacuum test, an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test, and a radiation test [15].…”
