Thromboelastometric and platelet responses to silk biomaterials

Abstract: Silkworm's silk is natural biopolymer with unique properties including mechanical robustness, all aqueous base processing and ease in fabrication into different multifunctional templates. Additionally, the nonmulberry silks have cell adhesion promoting tri-peptide (RGD) sequences, which make it an immensely potential platform for regenerative medicine. The compatibility of nonmulberry silk with human blood is still elusive; thereby, restricts its further application as implants. The present study, therefore, e… Show more

“…PVAAA and PVAPR showed significantly higher LDH activity (4.32 ± 0.72 and 4.04 ± 0.54 milliunits/ml, respectively) due to the presence of RGD sequences attracting more platelets, suggesting their superior haemostatic property ( p ≤ .01). Greater amount of platelet interaction was also observed with another NMSF Antheraea mylitta as compared with BMSF owing to RGD sequences in Antheraea mylitta protein supporting our results (Kundu, Schlimp, Nürnberger, Redl, & Kundu, ).…”

Bioburden inflicted on chronic wounds, by the presence of polymicrobes, has been evidenced, particularly in the diabetic condition(Martin, Zenilman, & Lazarus, 2010).…”

“…We compared two different LPs for the mobile surface layer: perfluorodecalin (PFD) and Fluorolube 63 (FL63). TEG is a viscoelastic clotting test that has been used to investigate the impact of various biomaterials at the blood/biomaterial interface in ex vivo blood preparations (10)(11)(12)(13). It has been identified as a useful screening tool to select promising biomaterial candidates for in vivo testing (14).…”
