This paper presents a comparative evaluation of various topologies for three-phase power converters using the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation technique. Various switch-mode AC-DC power converters are studied, and their performance with respect to total harmonic distortion (THD), efficiency, power factor and losses are analyzed. The HIL-simulation is implemented in an Altera Cyclone II DE2 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Board and in the Matlab/Simulink environment. A comparison of the simulation and HIL-simulation results is also provided.

This paper presents the design and implementation of synchronous pulse-width modulation (PWM) for a three-phase threeswitch Single Ended Primary Inductance Converter (SEPIC). The PWM switching patterns are generated from an Altera Cyclone II field programmable gate array (FPGA) device. Two types of carrier waveforms are used with two 60 o sine waveforms, taking less space in the FPGA, providing more space for control circuits. Comparative study of two PWM methods is also shown. Verification of simulation results are based on hardware-in-the-loop technique, to show the effectiveness of digital-based PWM control.

Problem statement:The design and implementation of a sinusoidal Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) generator for a single-phase hybrid power filter is presented. Approach: The PWM was developed in an Altera® Flex 10 K Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and the modulation index was selected by calculating the DC bus voltage of the active filter through a digital controller, by Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) technique. Results: Experiment results showed the proposed active power filter topology to be capable of compensating the load current and the voltage harmonic, up to IEC limit. Conclusion: The implemented PWM generator using an FPGA required less memory usage while providing flexible PWM patterns whether same phase, lagging, or leading, the reference voltage signal.
