Three-phase five-level CHB inverter fed induction motor for renewable applications

Abstract:
This paper presents the three-phase CHB inverter fed induction motor suitable for renewable energy source applications. Normally, all present existing multilevel inverters produce multilevel output, but the number of components required is more, bulk in size, more in cost. Which are more burdens to small capacity renewable sources. These challenges are eliminated in CHB inverter. This CHB mainly consisting of one DC source, one capacitor and eight switches in each phas… Show more

“…Voltage source inverters (VSIs), in particular, are commonly used for interfacing renewable energy sources and energy storage systems with the primary grid [12], [13]. VSIs have many applications including output voltage and current control [10], [13]- [17], active power filtering [3], [7], [18]- [20], and power factor compensation [21], [22], among other applications [4], [5].…”

“…CHB-MLI does not require clamped diodes or flying capacitors, and it requires lower number of components and simpler control of switches by offering structure modularity property. The main drawback of this configuration is the requirement of separate DC sources, so it is limited to applications of separate DC sources; renewable energy sources [13][15]. Porselvi and Muthu provide a comparison among NPC-MLI, FC-MLI, and CHB-MLI (classical topologies).…”
