Three-dimensional nanostructuring of polymer materials by controlled avalanche using femtosecond laser pulses

Abstract: We report direct laser fabrication of free-standing 3D structures in a sol-gel photo-polymer SZ2080, poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEG-DA-700) and thermo-polymer polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) without use of two-photon absorbing photo-sensitizers. By estimating the multi-photon and avalanche ionization rates in the focal volume it is shown that bulk structuring of pure materials was achieved via a controlled avalanche. It is shown that several non-photosesitized materials can be combined for fabrication of co… Show more

“…The material processed using DLW was the nonphotosensitized hybrid organic-inorganic polymer SZ2080. We have chosen this material because of its superb characteristics such as ultra low shrinkage during development [15], transparency [16], biocompatability [17,18], high optical damage threshold [19] and the possibility to structure it without added photoinitiators [20,21] which eliminates their absorption and toxicity from the material. After the fabrication it was developed in 4-methyl-2-pentanone (PEN).…”
