Third-Order Nonlinear Optical Susceptibilities of Solutions of Some Mesogenic Metallotetraphenylporphyrins by Nanosecond Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing Method

Abstract: The benzene solutions of a mesogenic tetraphenylporphyrin, 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(4-n-pentadecylphenyl)porphyrin, and its metal complexes (metal: Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and V = O) were investigated to determine the 3rd-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities χ(3) by nanosecond degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) at 532 nm. All solutions of approximately the same concentration ( ≈ 10−5 mol/l) showed χ(3)-values of the same order of magnitude, ≈ 10−11 esu.

“…The fluorescence of PmPV/MWNTs and PPA/CNTs was much weaker than that of the parent polymer, caused, as the authors proposed, by absorption, quenching, and scattering from the nanotubes. 40) Similar mechanisms may be applicable to the decrease in the fluorescence intensity in our POTABQ-MWNTs system. An intramolecular photoinduced charge transfer process may be involved in fluorescence quenching, in which the electrons in the excited POTABQ chains are effectively transferred to the nearby shells of the nanotubes throughand pconjugated bonds.…”

“…The v (3) value of the samples as measured with DFWM is given in Table 2. The v (3) value of reference CS 2 is taken to be 1.7 Â 10 À12 esu at 532 nm [31]. DFWM and z-scan data shows some slight mismatch in the v (3) .…”
