Thermophilic production of polyhydroxyalkanoates by a novelAneurinibacillusstrain isolated from Gudao oilfield, China

Abstract: Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are usually biosynthesized using mesophilic strains, but the fermentation processes often suffer from bacterial contamination. This work reports the screening of thermophilic bacteria capable of producing PHAs under elevated temperatures to reduce the contamination risk. Strain XH2 was isolated from an oilfield and identified as Aneurinibacillus sp. by morphology, physiological-biochemical characterization, and 16S rDNA phylogenetic analysis. This strain can produce PHA granules, w… Show more

“…A further screening of thermophilic, contamination-resistant PHA producers was carried out by Xiao et al [111]. During this study, the strain XH2, isolated from an oilfield, was characterized from a morphological, physiological, and biochemical perspective, and, supported by 16S rDNA analysis, classified as Aneurinibacillus sp.…”

“…The partial 16S rRNA gene sequences of the purified isolates were amplified using universal primers 27F and 1492R, and were sequenced using an ABI 3730XL DNA Analyser (Applied Biosystems) by Suzhou Genewiz Bio‐Tech Co., Ltd (China). The resultant sequences were compared with those of type species deposited in EzTaxon .…”

“…So far, more and more novel bacteria with the capable of enhanced production of PHA or better adaption to the fermentation processes have been isolated, and can be used as the best candidate for the PHA biosynthesis (Xiao et al . ). Recombinant E. coli harbouring the PHA synthetic pathway was also frequently used for biopolymer production for its many advantages such as high level of productivity, high cell density fermentation, etc.…”

“…Lu and his coworkers have metabolically engineered a mutant strain (Ralstonia eutropha W50) expressing the genes encoding L-arabinose catabolic enzymes, and therefore can use L-arabinose as the carbon feedstock to accumulate a noticeable level of PHB (Lu et al 2013). So far, more and more novel bacteria with the capable of enhanced production of PHA or better adaption to the fermentation processes have been isolated, and can be used as the best candidate for the PHA biosynthesis (Xiao et al 2015).
