Thermoelectric figure of merit of the system (GeTe)1−x(AgSbTe2)x

Abstract: The thermoelectric properties of polycrystalline samples of GeTe-rich side solid solutions (GeTe)l -, .. (AgSbTe,), for the compositions z = 0.00, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, and 0.29 are investigated. The temperature dependences of the Seebeck coefficient and the electrical resistivity and the dependences of the total thermal conductivity a t 300 K versus composition are measured. The temperature dependences of the total thermal conductivity and the thermoelectric figure of merit 2 are calculated. The composition with … Show more

“…Für diese seit mehreren Jahrzehnten untersuchten Materialien wird üblicherweise die Abkürzung "TAGS-m" verwendet, wobei m den Gehalt an GeTe in Molprozent angibt. [194] In thermoelektrischen Bauelementen werden diese intrinsischen pMaterialien häufig mit einem n-Schenkel aus PbTe kombiniert. Die Entdeckung hoher ZT-Werte von ca.…”

“…AgSbTe 2 and GeTe can be used to form alloys (AgSbTe 2 ) 1-x (GeTe) x , which are usually called TAGS-m, with m representing the mole percent of GeTe [121]. They are intrinsically p-type semiconductors, which are typically used together with PbTe as n-type leg in thermoelectric modules.…”

“…Researchers in the 1960s explored multi-element doping and alloying to enhance ZT. Thus, it is not surprising that some GeTe-based thermoelectric alloys (Rosi et al, 1960;Plachkova, 1984) can be recognized as MPEA according to the composition rule. Besides GeTe, we will also highlight some early notable thermoelectric MPEA.…”

“…(i) Te-Sb-Ge-Ag (TAGS) compounds with the rock salt structure are pseudo-binary GeTe-AgSbTe2 alloys (Rosi et al, 1960;Plachkova, 1984). TAGS-85 (85% GeTe + 15% AgSbTe2) alloys were successfully applied for direct conversion of heat energy into electricity by radio isotopic thermoelectric generators in space (Wood, 1988).…”
