Thermodynamic, Ultrasonic, and Transport Study of Binary Mixtures Containing 2-(2-Methoxyethoxy)ethanol and Alcohols at (293.15–323.15) K

Abstract: Binary mixtures of 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol and alcohols were characterized in terms of the existence of intermolecular interactions at different temperatures (293.15, 303.15, 313.15, and 323.15) K and at pressure p = 0.1 MPa. The alcohols were methanol, ethanol, propan-1-ol, propan-2-ol, butan-1-ol, and butan-2-ol. The study was based on the measurements of densities, speeds of sound, and refractive indices over the entire range of mixture compositions. The obtained data were used to calculate various therm… Show more

“…Mixtures comprising 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol, butan-1-ol, butan-2-ol, and propan-1-ol were generated by mass using an OHAUS balance (precision of 0.0001 g). Table presents a comparison between our reported thermophysical properties (ρ, υ, and n D ) data for each component and data previously reported in the literature. …”

“…No purification and the degassing of reagents was done owing to their high purity upon purchase. Table reports the purities of reagents used as stated by the suppliers and purities as obtained in gas chromatography, together with the densities (ρ) and the refractive indexes ( n D ) of the pure liquids at 293.15 K. The reported values were also compared to those reported in the literature. …”

“…Alkoxyethanols make up a class of organic compounds with both -O- and -OH groups in their structures, which allow the formation of intermolecular and intramolecular hydrogen bonds. In industry, alkoxyethanols are often used as gasoline additives to improve the octane number, reduce pollution, and upgrade product quality . For instance, in the formulation of JP-8, a kerosene fuel widely used by the U.S. Air Force, 2-(2-methoxyethoxy) ethanol is usually added as a deicing agent. , The compound is also used as an ink additive .…”
