Thermodynamic Analysis of a Solar Driven Tri-generation System for Building Applications

Abstract: Energy and exergy analyses and sustainability assessment of a conceptual solar driven tri-generation system with thermal energy storage option for power, water heating and air cooling are performed. The present tri-generation system includes parabolic trough solar collectors (PTC), an organic Rankine cycle for power generation (ORC), an absorption chiller for cooling (AC) and a thermal energy storage system (TES). The effects of solar collector dimension variations, system parameters, environmental conditions … Show more

“…There can be found several studies that were adopted the sustainability index method for the sustainability assessment of cogeneration and tri-generation power plants for various areas. Ozcan and Dincer (2014) analyzed a tri-generation system consisting of parabolic trough solar collectors, an ORC, an absorption chiller and a thermal energy storage system. They obtained that the sustainability of the system improves with higher solar irradiation and lower ambient temperature.…”

“…The absorption chiller cycle runs with LiBr-water solution as the working fluid at vacuum conditions to provide cooling load [23,24]. After releasing high-grade heat to Mg-Cl, steam Rankine cycle, and SMR system, lowertemperature heat is used to provide heat for the absorption chiller.…”

“…Steam Rankine cycle is considered to be a threestage turbine with reheating and regeneration for better utilization of the heat source, for higher amount of power production and system efficiency. The absorption chiller cycle runs with LiBr-water solution as the working fluid at vacuum conditions to provide cooling load [23,24].…”
