Thermal Topology Optimization in OptiStruct Software

Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the recently implemented thermal topology optimization capabilities in Altair OptiStruct software. Design sensitivity analysis and optimization have been enhanced to support thermal compliance responses in addition to existing temperature responses. Topology optimization can be performed for pure thermal optimization problems or coupled thermal-structural optimization problems. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the advantage of thermal compliance formulation over temperature response formulation.
